Various bars and clubs in Barrio Barretto. The Barrio is pretty much all that remains of the Subic Bay nightlife from back when Olongapo was a liberty port for the US Navy.

Hello. I have been in and out of Subic Bay with the Australian Navy from 1970 until 1986. One time I was on a Submarine and we broke down and needed to wait for repairs. The “Island Girls Bar” in Barrio Barretto sponsored us and I was drinking there almost every day. I believe the bar was owned by an American Veteran. Can anybody enlighten me, and if anybody has some photos of the bar back at that time, it would be great. Thankyou

I was in Olongapol in 1970 and was friends with a girl that work at the Cherry Club by the Name of Lulu and Bar # 51. I can’t seem to fine anything about the Cherry Club or her. I was looking at a sight called Barrio Baretto Samori Supper Angels and you had a girl that went by the name of Lulu #17. Maybe you be able to help me with my seach.
Thank You,
Don
Is Barrio Baretto the old Subic City? When I was in the Navy I preferred Subic City over the craziness of Magsasay Avenue in Olangapo.
Hi Skip!
No – the Barrio is an area roughly halfway between the base and Subic Subic. You might remember bar names like Midnight Rambler, Purple Stallion, Night Riders. And many more. Subic had a few foreign owned bars in 2013, but now they are all gone. There’s a handful of local bars there now. Barrio still has many bars, and is the primary location for nightlife.
